Chief Lou Anemone - Board Advisor
Chief Lou Anemone is a 35 year veteran of the New York Police Department. For the last five years of his tenure, he was the Chief Operating Officer, the highest sworn officer rank in the Department. Further, Anemone is noted as one of the co-developers of the Compstat Unit, created to provide the Department with snapshots of preliminary crime statistics which allow tactical planning and deployment of resources to fight crime. In 1996, Compstat received national recognition as a recipient of the Ford Foundation and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government award for Innovations in American Government. During his tenure with the NYPD, homicides were reduced 60 percent, violent crime dropped 50 percent, and police use of deadly force fell 60%. In 1996, Chief Anemone made sure the Cold Case Squad was successfully put into place with some of the best detectives from the newly merged police departments.
He now owns and operates his own law enforcement and counter-terrorism consulting company, Anemone Consulting, Inc., which in addition to providing law enforcement consulting services, is developing software which will accomplish worldwide some of the things that Compstat did for New York City. He frequently lectures around the Country about domestic security, most recently at a conference at Northeastern University, which was jointly sponsored by The Police Institute at Rutgers University, Boston Police Department and Massachusetts' Public Safety Department. Chief Anemone is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts.
He was Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nyack Hospital, where he served from 1999-2004 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way. In addition, Chief Anemone served as the Deputy Director of the New York State Office of Public Security in the immediate aftermath of the attacks of September 11th 2001, and most recently (December 2001- May 2003) as the inaugural Deputy Executive Director/Security of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York. In this most recent assignment, Chief Anemone worked to improve security (after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks), throughout the entire transportation system of New York, including bridges, tunnels, buses, subways and railroads. |
